Brother of Highland entrepreneur is appointed new director at Highland heating and renewables firm

The younger brother of a trail blazing Highland entrepreneur who founded a leading plumbing, heating and renewable energy business is gearing up to be a director after recently completing his apprenticeship.

Fraser McInnes will ensure that home-grown business McInnes Plumbing and Heating Ltd and McInnes Renewables Ltd, which is headquartered in Inverness, is a firm family affair as he prepares to stand side by side with his older brother and founder of the business, Lachlan McInnes. Fraser will become one of four directors this month (April).

Fraser, 25, of Fort Augustus, is currently completing a four-year OFTEC (oil, gas and water) apprenticeship with Inverness College. He has also completed his manufacturing training in renewables and is now gearing up to take his place as director of McInnes Plumbing and Heating and McInnes Renewables Ltd, alongside his brother and founder Lachlan McInnes.

Fraser comes on board at a crucial time for the firm, which has seen significant growth in the past twelve months with forecasts predicting this trend is set to continue within the foreseeable future..

There is now a total of seven staff and there is also currently two apprentices within the group.

Managing director Lachlan McInnes, who started the business in 2011 after being made redundant, has ambitious plans for the firm over the next five years and his brother Fraser will join a team of four directors, including Scott Murray who is currently business development manager and Ian Williamson, who is currently project manager within the group. All three will begin their new roles in this month (April). The restructure is intended to help execute Lachlan’s strategy for significant growth over the next five years.

Lachlan has recently been named as a finalist in the Young Professionals Green Energy Awards 2016. He beat off stiff competition from 150 entries to be shortlisted in the prestigious Business Development Award category

Meanwhile, Fraser is keen to get started in his role, and has big visions for the Highland based heating and renewable firm’s future.

Fraser said: “I’m delighted to have completed my apprenticeship and to come on board with my brother Lachlan is such an amazing opportunity. To date Lachlan has built up a successful company, and I hope together we can build and expand on that success.

“In the future I aim to become a fully qualified heating and plumbing engineer in a number of disciplines. Our aim is to become leaders in the heating and renewables sector, always been at the forefront of new technologies, to give our customers the best options on the market. I am passionate about learning about the new and latest technologies on the market, and I hope we can use this to the advantage of the business.”

Lachlan said: “Fraser will be a welcome addition to the McInnes group team. He and I share the same principles about hard work, integrity and honesty, so I am confident that having Fraser as a director in the business will strengthen it and will help us achieve our goal of taking our business to the next level.

“Our five year plan is ambitious, and changes to government policies on renewable energy is seeing our business develop in unchartered territory, however our commitment to being at the forefront of cutting edge renewable technology will ensure our future success.

“We are currently embarking on a serious recruitment drive for qualified gas engineers and plumbers to join the firm to support our plan for growth.”
