Case Study: Biomass Installation
Commercial Biomass Installation
Situated on the banks of Loch Ness, sits the highly acclaimed Glenmoriston Arms Hotel. 10 bedroomed property with cottage accommodation, public bar and restaurant.
Like all hotels and accommodation providers, the Glenmoriston Arms has a constant high demand for heating throughout the building, but also has a high demand for hot water during peak times.
The hotel itself, is a stone build structure, which made the LPG and electric storage heating system unsustainable – both in terms of energy efficiency and financial costs.
McInnes Renewable Solutions recommended an external biomass system. This not only provides reduced fuel costs, but will also provide the hotel with an income from the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) over a 20 year period.
McInnes Renewables installed 2 x 60kW Windhager BioWin pellet boilers with a 1500ltr accumulator. A new wet system was installed throughout the whole hotel, replacing the storage heaters. As space within the hotel is at a premium, an external container was installed at the rear of the building, which was linked to the new wet system via Rehau underground pre insulated pipework.
‘Due to the seasonal nature of the business we had a relatively small window to complete this work, especially when you take into account the size of the job and the problems an old building like this can throw up.
