How an Air Source Heat Pump works:
Solar water heating systems use solar panels, called collectors, fitted to your roof. These collect heat from the sun and use it to heat up water, which is stored in a hot water cylinder. A boiler or immersion heater can be used as back-up to heat the water further to reach the temperature you want.
If you’re interested in installing Solar Thermal collectors, there’s a few points worth considering, including:
- Positioning of your panels. As energy is generated from the suns rays, there needs to be a large south facing position (rule of thumb is between 1 and 2 m2 of collector per person living in the house)
- Are the panels to be mounted on the roof or at ground level?
- Is your current system compatible with solar water cylinder?
